Would anyone go to a lawyer for a 1 hour consultation and expect to be charged $700.00 plus tax?
I am in a dispute with a lawyer in the small city of which I live. I emphasize small city because I am not in Hollywood, New York City, or Miami. Actually I am in a small city in Michigan. He claims his $700/hour price is standard and I told him to go randomly ask 100 people if they think his prices are ridiculous and at least 85% will tell him he is nuts. He also claimed that a price like that should be umed. By the way, I was only there for 45 minutes of which he spent 15 minutes telling me stories about his career. So technically he gave me 30 minutes of advice. So I am asking the public myself. This isn't so much about the money at this point as it is the disrespect to the public and their intelligence. Is $700/hour a fair price to get a lawyer's opinion? And would you ume before you walked into the office that $700/hour is standard?
