Do you consider it unfair or ridiculous for the athletes to make so much money in the US?

These people offer entertainment. If you ever buy a ticket to a game, watch them on t.v. or on the radio, you are paying their salary. The only way to stop them from making money is to make people stop watching. They are paid a salary based on what they bring to their club they play for. Don't you wanna be paid for what you bring to the table? Golfers and tennis players only get paid to win. Otherwise, their salaries are through endorsements. Theoretically, if a ball team makes 100 million this year. Then, I join the team and it makes 150 million. Aren't I worth paying 20% of that difference? If you work for a company as an accountant and you find a way for the company to save millions of dollars every year, don't you think you'd have a good argument for a raise or at least a nice bonus? May not work that way for you but, maybe you should have learned to swing a bat or racket better or maybe shoot a ball.
