Should i go to the police?

i was attacked in a club last night by a girl i have never even seen before, she grabbed me by the neck and started slapping me. i had no idea what was going on, i hadnt done anything. Another girl grabbed her off me and i hide behind one of my guy friends who was tryin to get her away from me again as she kept hitting me. There was no bouncers around to report it or to help me. Should i go to the police about this girl, my friends later told me her name. And also what would happen if i did go?
